“I spent my life folded between the pages of books. In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”

The Hunger Games Discussion Saturdays: The covers and titles

It's The Hunger Games Disucussions Saturdays!!! (late! sorry about that....long weekend) If you don't know what The Hunger Games Discussion Saturdays are, here is the definition: Discussing The Hunger Games different topics every week. Hosted by us, here at 2 B Read.

here is this weeks question:

The covers and titles: what do they mean to you?

...........................................................................................................................................
Kait

First the covers:

The first book  would be the pin...obviously. Which is the symbol of her rebellion and her tie back home, to everything she is and everything she represents. Everything she wants to be. the position of the mockingjay is sleek and agile. Catching an arrow in its beak....

The second book (insert pic) would be a different version of the mockingjay because Katniss evolves some between the first and second book (throughout each book, really) the circle with the lines represents the decision of the "clock." aka the arena. The mockingjay on the cover is turned around, facing the other direction, looking forward (that could mean so many things)

The third book  is also the mockingjay shown in a different position once again. This time it's in flight, and it's breaking the chains of the circles that had been wrapped around it before....and all along (aka Capitol rule)

Now about the titles:

"The Hunger Games" is pretty self explanatory. It is the book in which Katniss enters her first Hunger Games. It also is the first time you, as the reader, are introduced to the concept of "The Hunger Games"

"Catching Fire" is what I believe to say that their rebellion has caught flame, sparks ignite (for Katniss and Peeta) and so many dominos roll that "The girl on fire" has truly started a rebellion.

"Mockingjay" is the symbol Katniss has had all along. It's the symbol of her rebellion and it's what the people of District 13 want her to be. And she is. She has a large roll to play, a role of life or death. The roll of "the mockingjay"

Mari
So, here I believe the cover is black because she is in the Hunger Games it's bleak and dark and sad and UGH! Y'know?? And the pin is representing the pin.... Madge gives Katniss.

Red would represent fire because Catching Fire fire=red see my logic???  And also the bird is a mockingjay because she was offered to be mockingjay.

Blue is like the sky and she flew away from the capitol and joined district 13 and the mockingjay is in flight and like I just said she flew away from the capitol.

The Hunger Games- She goes through the Hunger Games

Catching Fire- The revolution starts or (catches fire.....) Get it?

Mockingjay- She accepts the job as mockingjay
