“I spent my life folded between the pages of books. In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”

The Year of the Great Seventh was definitely interesting. I don’t know what I expected going in but what I got surprised me.

I was gripped by the lure of possible paranormalcy, but also thrown off by some of the character actions and redundancy. What kept me reading most was the fact that the mythology element hadn’t yet come into complete play…like the story wasn’t all the way there and I was waiting for that to happen. It didn’t, until the end when things began to unravel and I wish there had been more throughout the book. It took a little while for me to feel like we had reached a solid ‘middle of the book’ but by then we were almost to the end. (I think that’s a contribution of the lack of mythology)

The characters seemed, originally, to have potential to be strong and full and have the ability to form emotional ties to me but it felt like to me that something was off about them. Sometimes they said odd things or random events happened that I just wasn’t sure where they came from. That really took away some vital story connection for me.

However, that being said I did enjoy the book and something kept me reading. The ending was really a cliff hanger and I plan to read the next book. I hope the mythology is more prominent in that one.

SYNOPSIS
Sophie has always felt out of step—an outsider, even amongst friends in her high school with all the hype about celebrity culture. Her life in L.A. seems to have been already written for her, but when her junior year starts, it all takes a drastic turn. When she crosses paths with the school's heartthrob, Nate Werner, they fall for each other in a way neither can understand. What they don’t know is that by giving in to their desires, they are unlocking an ancient Egyptian prophecy that threatens to return Earth to the dark ages.

To undo the curse, Nate and Sophie embark on an adventure that takes them across the country. But their quest is not only to save the
world as they know it. It is also a fight for their very survival. Behind the scenes, there are those that are counting on them to fail.

MY BIO/STORY
Unlike most authors, I didn’t start writing books when I was five years old. In fact, I’d never been too interested in reading or writing. Hanging out with friends in the small Spanish town where I grew up always seemed more appealing than anything a book could offer. It took about twenty-seven years and a global financial meltdown for me to discover the magic world of writing.
At the time, I was living in New York City, and one morning I discovered I was no longer expected at my sixty-hour-a-week investment banking job. Most of my friends had very demanding jobs, so I spent my days wandering around on my own.
Like other unemployed people, I started living through the nights and sleeping through the days. New York is known as the city that never sleeps for a good reason! One night, tired of surfing the web and watching TV, I opened a Word document and started typing a short story, which I saved in my computer with little interest. That was the day Nate and Sophie were born.
Days later, since the financial industry seemed to be going into a downward spiral, I decided to spend three months traveling through Southeast Asia and New Zealand. I thought, naïve me, that by the time I returned, the financial crisis would have come to an end.
Something really strange happened to me during that trip. No matter where I went, I couldn’t stop thinking about the story. Nate and Sophie followed me everywhere. No matter how hard I tried to forget about them, they just wouldn’t go away. At the beginning, I thought I was losing my mind, but soon after, I realized I had to continue writing the story.
When I came back to New York, I went right back into it, and that’s how The Year of the Great Seventh was created. Unfortunately, halfway through the novel, I received a letter from the immigration department informing me that, with no job, I was no longer welcome in the United States. Without much of a choice, my boyfriend and I decided to pack our lives, along with my half-drafted manuscript, and begin another exciting adventure in London, where we now live.

Break My Heart 1,000 Times

Break My Heart 1,000 Times

Living in the aftermath of the Event means that seeing the dead is now a part of life, but Veronica wishes that the ghosts would just move on. Instead, the ghosts aren't disappearing--they're gaining power.
When Veronica and her friend, Kirk, decide to investigate why, they stumble upon a more sinister plot than they ever could have imagined. One of Veronica's high school teachers is crippled by the fact that his dead daughter has never returned as a ghost, and he's haunted by the possibility that she's waiting to reappear within a fresh body. Veronica seems like the perfect host. And even if he's wrong, what's the harm in creating one more ghost?
From critically acclaimed Generation Dead author Daniel Waters, comes a delectably creepy and suspenseful thriller. Break My Heart 1,000 Times will leave readers with the chills. Or is that a ghost reading over the page?

Hey there, it is MARI! Here we go:

I rate this book a solid::::::::::

What I liked:
The writing was absolutely gorgeous! I think the only book that has better writing is Shatter Me. The similes and metaphors were just amazing, it was just perfection. Also, the point of view shifted which I liked because it always kept you interested as you had to figure out who was telling the story at the beginning of each chapter. I also love the cover, it is gorgeous, the tally marks are quiet interesting. And for the extra extra book obsessed people out there: The book smells amazing, especially amazing with a bit of sweetness added to the usual amazing smell of new book!

What I didn't like:
It was incredible slow, nothing really happened until the last quarter of the book! The author has great writing skill but he seems to drag everything on. I also didn't really like the main character, she was not even close to realistic. It talked about how all the boys loved her, yet she was super well behaved and she is also the smartest girl and school, and she is super brave, I could keep going, in most books I have read the main character has a weakness and I just couldn't find one! At one point I actually found myself not caring that her and her boyfriend were about to die! I just felt rushed to finish it like one of the other people feel about every book!!!!

Sorry to dissapoint because I also thought it would be much better :((((
Signing off,
Mari

Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan

The Son of Neptune (Heroes of Olympus, #2)Hello there people of the blog-a-verse, it is Mari here (OMG she is still alive?) Yes I am! Anyways here we go:

Seven half-bloods shall answer the call,
To storm or fire the world must fall.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.

Percy is confused. When he awoke from his long sleep, he didn't know much more than his name. His brain fuzz is lingering, even after the wolf Lupa told him he is a demigod and trained him to fight with the pen/sword in his pocket. Somehow Percy manages to make it to a camp for half-bloods, despite the fact that he has to keep killing monsters along the way. But the camp doesn't ring any bells with him. The only thing he can recall from his past is another name: Annabeth

Hazel is supposed to be dead. When she lived before, she didn't do a very good job of it. Sure, she was an obedient daughter, even when her mother was possessed by greed. But that was the problem — when the Voice took over her mother and commanded Hazel to use her "gift" for an evil purpose, Hazel couldn't say no. Now because of her mistake, the future of the world is at risk. Hazel wished she could ride away from it all on the stallion that appears in her dreams.

Frank is a klutz. His grandmother says he is descended from heroes and can be anything he wants to be, but he doesn't see it. He doesn't even know who his father is. He keeps hoping Apollo will claim him, because the only thing he is good at is archery — although not good enough to win camp war games. His bulky physique makes him feel like an ox, especially infront of Hazel, his closest friend at camp. He trusts her completely — enough to share the secret he holds close to his heart.

Beginning at the "other" camp for half-bloods and extending as far as the land beyond the gods, this breathtaking second installment of the Heroes of Olympus series introduces new demigods, revives fearsome monsters, and features other remarkable creatures, all destined to play a part in the Prophesy of Seven

*********************************************************************************************
I absolutely loved it! I read more than three-fourths of it in one night! So I have to give it:

YAYYYYYY!
Here are the deets:

What I Didn't Like:
I feel really mean saying this but I didn't really love*semi-spoiler-alert?* Frank and Hazel's relationship *end of semi-spoiler* It was too cheesy.. Kind of perfect like they never really had a problem until {he found out about sammy, even then there wasn't really a big big problem plus i never want my favorite book relationships to have problems but, still maybe a small bump along the rooad to keep it exciting2!} But overall there wasn't anything that killed/ nausated/ gave me a heartattack / hurt me.

WHAT I LIKED:
EVERYTHING! I absolutely LOVE { THE WHOLE jUNO/ hERA TRADING pERCY AND jASON, genius, BUjust amazing it was beautiful and I dont know HOW rrioran came up with THAT!}}}}}}
I also love the whole Nico Hazel thing, it was cool to see the sides of Hades, Riches/wealth and death. Also seeing how the Romans live! I loved the doors of death being opened because it just made everything THAT much harder! In general I am totally in love with this series and I don't want to be mean but I like this series just a BIT more than the first 5 books! Is that too mean? Hope not! 'Till next time Mari signing out!

Summary from: goodreads.com

Where breaking the rules equals death.

..........................................................................................................................

I finished this book about a week ago and for a reason I wasn't 100% sure of I felt like I NEEDED the next installment. I expected this book to be different...I really did but I was surprisingly happy with what it turned out to actually be. This book is LOADED with completely shocking twists and turns. It holds somethings I guarantee you could not have predicted. (if you read this book and predicted the secret...please tell me...because you are amazing.)

I gave this book....................................

FOUR STARS!! It got this because this book wasn't exceptionally memorable but I know it kept me flying by the seat of my pants the whole read. It was a can't-put-down and I can't say I hated it at all. This book is totally a worthy read.

What I didn't like: There's nothing I can think of that was terribly upsetting to me... I don't know if I completely enjoyed the plot twist. It made the protagonist's love interest dwindle from the story if those who have read this know what I mean... (I don't really count that as a spoiler..) the only thing I really didn't love is that I could forget this story... I haven't seen this kind of thing done before but it feels a bit forgettable. (and it was not what I expected...and I'm not sure it was better than what I expected...but it was not worse. Just average)

What I did like: I loved the concept. Some of the theories and big questions were provoking and really made you think..."what would I do in this situation?" I've heard people call it 'Lord of the Flies boarding school' and I agree it is, I completely agree. When I was reading it I kept thinking "this feels Hunger Games-y...but not quite" that's when I read about it being compared to Lord of The Flies and I was like "That's it! It's a modern Lord of the Flies." And I love anything like that. Anything that puts humanity out there to be tested.

I loved Benson. Woah man. I feel like he sounds/narrates and looks like Percy Jackson...am I the only one?

and the paintball! I couldn't wait for the times they would play paintball....I just awaited it the whole book. (I seriously want to start playing paintball right about now...anyone else?)

Overall this book had fantastic writing, a fresh new sci-fi version of Lord of the Flies and it was superb.

Changes

Hello everyone! So lovely of you to stop by!

Well...some of you may have noticed (probably not) that I haven't posted in almost two weeks (yikes!) well that is because I've been very sick (I'm all better now thank you) and this blog has become quite the handful to upkeep. And I honestly want it to be more fun and carefree... so I'm going to change it up a bit, be more fun and light hearted. I always see these amazing blogs and they are so professional and I just LOVE them! But I can't do it... so I'm tossing professional out the window and just being my little old self, whom is utterly nerdy/crazy/fangirl-y

and I always find myself apologizing for not posting, promising things and not following through, etc. and it's becoming tiring.... I bet no one even reads this blog anyway... (HELLO??,,,,,if you're out there.......?)

:D

Welcome to the new blog....

Born at Midnight by C. C. Hunter

Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls, #1)Born at Midnight by C. C. Hunter
Summary from: goodreads.com

Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.

Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

...........................................................................................................

I loved this book. I truly did. Just as quickly as I started it became my new addiction, I felt like I was Kylie and that I was living in this paranormal world and it was miserable and magical all at the same.

I rated it:

FOUR STARS! Only because this was not m favorite book in the series. When I re-read it and I catch all the little jokes that you wouldn't understand having not read the other books, I realize how the book really deserves a five....but for a first time my first impression was a four. a very HIGH four.

The first chapter for me started out like a bad contemporary novel. It tried to "fit in" using teenage slang. It was all drama, first scene: parents are fighting. It was very cliche.

But that was  only the first one (maybe two) chapters, because Kylie had to have a somewhat normal life before right? Something to compare the camp to.

Lets get down to this:

Things I didn't like: the attempt at the text language that Kylie used was slightly annoying and made me cringe internally. * see "Things I liked"

I didn't like how Kylie was constantly in denial about her being a paranormal, I mean it took her too long to come around and face the facts. But I suppose if I were in her place I would have steadily declined all that crazy evidence myself.

Miss Hunter did not capitalize the "w" in Were. (short for "Werewolf") so every time I read the book I was confusing "Were" for "were" and I couldn't tell which was which, and that sometimes made for awkward scenarios and sentences. (that's just a small pet peeve I had that I really needed to get out there.)

Things I liked:

I loved the characters! Oh my goodness! This is honestly one of the first books I've read where I didn't automatically have a team. I am just as evenly torn on whether I'm Team Derek or Team Lucas as I was when I started this book (and I've read  all of them...except the last one which is not in stores yet)

I loved the feel of the book, the way it was built, the customs of a paranormal camp and it felt very real, like if I were to go to a paranormal camp sometime in the near future I would certainly be able to compose myself and hold my own.

And most of all (at times this was strenuous on my poor fangirl heart though) I loved how Kylie was different even in a camp of people who were different. She never fit in anywhere, and she really played that role well.

*but as the book/series went on it became a part of her character and it really made the book what it was, I honestly don't know how you can have that book without it!

Overall I am intensely in love with this book and I recommend it to any paranormal lovers. All your creatures are here. From Fae to werewolf, to vampire to witch, and all the way back to shapeshifter.

This is a HUGE victory for C. C. Hunter. I am in love with her work.

**NOTE: I would rate this book PG-13 for content**

Shadow Falls: The Beginning

The Shadow Falls Series Vol.1: Born at Midnight and Awake at Dawn I LOVE the cover for this vol. And the title! the whole "The Beginning" thing is just SO AMAZING! What do you guys think about this?

Booking Through Thursday: Winter Reading

It’s the depth of winter here where I live right now … what books do you like to read when it’s snowy and white? What books do you read to evoke a real feeling of winter (good or bad)?

It is very snowy where Mari and I are as well! I personally love to snuggle up with a gripping book and read the hours away. But I do not have a specific preference to season, I read the next book on my list or the book that I keep seeing and just CANNOT wait to get my hands on.

Have a great Thursday!

Booking Through Thursday: 2013 New Year's Reading Resolutions

Booking Through Thursday! (and I almost wrote Tidbit Thursday ^.^)

Any reading resolutions for the new year? Reading more? (Reading less?) Reading better books? Bigger books? More series? More relaxing books?
And hey, feel free to talk about any other resolutions you might have, too … or why you choose NOT to have any.

Well I do not have a goal. Because last time I set a goal I JUST missed it! JUST missed it! Ugh! So close! So I prefer to just read. And let it take me wherever it does. Because reading is happiness. And reading is what I do. I don't need a goal on it. Though if I were to set any goals, it would be on my writing. But that's a completely different story.

What is everyones goals?
